Sweden trounces Slovenia, 13-2

No one can say that Sweden and Slovenia weren’t ready for their first game at the 2004 IIHF World InLine Hockey Championship as the teams combined for two goals in the first 1:08 of the game.

Unfortunately for Slovenia, it’s offense sputtered after its first goal 30 seconds into the game as the 2003 silver medallists, Sweden, rattled off seven goals in the first half alone en route to a 13-2 trouncing.

The first five minutes of the game featured stunning end-to-end action and several good Slovenia chances, but Sweden was able to make more of its opportunities, jumping out to a 3-1 lead in the by the 5:52 mark. Sweden wore down the Slovenians through the rest of the half and added four additional goals.

The second half featured more Sweden dominance, while Slovenia, despite its best efforts, just couldn’t keep up with the Swedish speed. Bt the end of the third period, Sweden held a commanding 10-2 lead. The Tre Kronor added three additional goals in the final 12 minutes to make it a 13-2 win.

Team Sweden’s attack was balanced throughout the entire game as three players, Johan Larsson, Dejan Matejic and Bjorn Eriksson, each scored twice. Overall 10 different Sweden players scored.

The game was the most lopsided of the day. Sweden will look to remain undefeated tomorrow when it takes on Slovakia, while Slovenia will face the United States.
