PLAYING MODE

This year’s championship will feature the same playing format as the 2003 World Championship with two key changes. First, there will be a qualification game between Chinese Taipei and Belgium to determine which team gets the 16th and final position in the championship the day before the official tournament begins. Second, this year three teams will be relegated instead of two.

The format of the tournament combines the Top Division World Cham-pionship and the Division I World Championship.

The preliminary round will be played in 4 groups (A-D) with 4 teams each. The two last-placed teams of the groups A and B and the two first-placed teams of the groups C and D play for the 4th place in group A and B to participate in the Play-Offs of Pool A. The losers of the games between 4th A and 1st C, 4th B and 1st D play as first place in group C and D to participate in the Play-Offs of Pool B. For further information please see under play-offs.

The ranking of the groups is based according to the result of the last World Championship or the activity of the respective countries in the IIHF In-Line Hockey Program. On position 16 you will find the Qualifier from the Chinese Taipei–Belgium game.

The games will all be played in the city of Bad Tölz. All playing surfaces will be provided with ATAK Sport Court floors, the official IIHF Cham-pionship Floor. The Play-Off games will be played with a 5 minute sudden victory overtime and penalty shot shoot-out and the Final games will be played with 12-minute sudden victory overtime and if necessary also a penalty shot competition.
