Finland finsihed the preliminary round right where it started...in first place.
Team Finland (3-0) took awhile to get on the scoreboard against Germany (2-1), 8:38 to be exact, but once the Finns found their scoring touch, they had no problem handling the hosts Germany in a 7-3 victory.
Both teams were quiet offensively in the first period until Finland’s Sami Jarvenpaa scored with just over three minutes remaining in the period.Finland made it a two-goal lead off of a Sami Markkanen. goal at the end of the first period after getting several good looks the last five minutes of the stanza.. Then Germany got on the board with a power play goal at the 16:36 mark of the second period. Finland gave itself a little breathing room going into the second half when Aki Tuominen made it a 3-1 game.
Finland continued to put distance between itself and Germany, netting two goals early in the third period.Tuominen and Ville Viitaluoma scored in the early moments of the period.Team Germany inched its way back into the game as Florian Jung scored his team’s second goal, bringing the score to 6-2. The teams exchanged goals late in the period, but in the end, Germany could not overcome Finland’s lead as they fell, 7-3.
Finland earned first place in the B Group, while Germany earned a second-place finish.
