Germany won its second game of the 2003 IIHF In-Line Hockey World Championship with an 8-5 win over Slovakia.
The teams had an even battle in the first period, closing out the first 12 minutes in a 1-1 tie. But Germany quickly sparked to life in the second period, notching four unanswered goals in a four-minute span. Udo Schmid kicked-off the second-period scoring a goal at the 17:12 mark. His goal was followed one minute later by a tally from Michael Wolf. Less than a minute later, the Germans scored a shorthanded goal to make it a 4-1 lead. Wolf added his second goal of the period at the 21:39 mark to give Germany a convincing four-goal lead going into the second half of the game.
Slovakia opened the third period with an offensive surge of its own, getting two goals 13 seconds apart just over a minute into the period. Peter Staron made it a one-goal game with his goal at the 30:46 mark of the third period. But Germany countered with two goals at the end of the period giving the team a comfortable 7-4 lead.
The teams exchanged goals in the fourth period as Germany skated to its second win of the World Championship.
Germany (2-0) has the day off tomorrow and will try to win the B Group on Tuesday in a game against Finland. Slovakia (0-1) will face Finland tomorrow at 20:00
